NWOYA – Police in Nwoya district, northern Uganda are investigating a case in which a soccer fan is said to have committed suicide following Arsenal’s champions league loss to Bayern on Wednesday.

Richard Egola, 29, lost the sum UGX10 million after staking on his club to beat Bayern in the UEFA Champions League game on Wednesday night.

According to eye witnesses, Egola watched the match in a hotel but when the realization dawned on him that his side were crashing out of the European Cup, he became inconsolable, and left the hotel in fits of tears.

“We were watching the match in one of the hotel in our town, and when Arsenal lost, Egola just walked out in protest and he was crying heavily,” Calvin Otieno – one of his friends said.

“We didn’t know he was going to hang himself until this morning, when we received the reports and came here to find his body hanging in a mango tree.”

Police visited the scene and took the body to the city mortuary pending a postmortem.

After postmortem, the body has been handed over to the relatives for burial arrangements.
