KABALE: The Deputy Vice Chancellor in Charge of Academic Affairs at Kabale University in South Western Uganda, Kabale District, Professor Benon Basheka has been relieved from his position due to serious misconduct.

In a letter obtained by one of Our Reporters dated 13th March 2024, signed by the University Chancellor, Prof Joy Constance Kwesiga, it stated that Prof Basheka has been removed from the Office of Vice Chancellor in Charge of Academic Affairs and terminated from his employment at Kabale University.

“This is to inform you that Professor Benon Basheka has been removed from his position as Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs at Kabale University. Having handed over the office in the foregoing today(13th March 2024), Professor Basheka has ceased to be employed by Kabale University”. Prof Kwesiga stated.

Professor Basheka handed over the Office on Wednesday this Week as instructed.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Professor Benon Basheka underwent the disciplinary process of the University, involving the Appointments Board and the University Council, where he was found guilty of various forms of misconduct.

The Kabale University Council unanimously decided to remove Professor Basheka from the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs), a decision upheld and implemented by the Chancellor, who holds the authority to make such appointments.

The cited misconduct includes Abuse of Office, Abetting Crime, Gross Insubordination, Acts likely to disrupt the proper management and progress of the University, and Acts or omissions that bring the image of the University into disrepute, as outlined in the Kabale University Human Resource Manual, 2022.

Prof Kwesiga has urged the public to direct any inquiries regarding the Office of Vice Chancellor in Charge of Academic Affairs to her office.

“Kabale University would like to thank him for his contributions to the university and wishes him the best in his future endeavours. Refer any official matter regarding the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs to the Vice Chancellor’s office”. Prof Kwesiga further Stated.
