Singer and politician Bobi Wine, also known as Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, has once again criticized the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) led by fellow singer Eddy Kenzo.

The UNMF was formed earlier this year, with Eddy Kenzo appointed as acting president. Three deputies, Sheebah Karungi, Pallaso, and Juliana Kanyomozi, were also named, but Juliana later resigned due to personal responsibilities.

Since its establishment, critics, especially those aligned with the opposition party National Unity Platform (NUP), and media analysts have suggested that the UNMF might be seeking government funds. Eddy Kenzo has consistently denied these claims, emphasizing that the federation’s primary goal is to enhance the music industry.

Eddy Kenzo has consistently emphasized the need for amending the Copyright Law to ensure fair compensation for musicians, similar to practices in other countries.

However, NUP’s President and musician, Bobi Wine, has criticized these musicians again, claiming that the Musicians Federation received an alleged Ugx 18 billion from the government to streamline the music industry and cover office expenses. Bobi Wine questioned the allocation, comparing it to the cost of constructing a hospital like Kiruddu Hospital.

UMA President Cindy Sanyu has also called for inclusivity in distributing this package and advocated for long-term solutions for the music industry rather than short-term incentives.
