Kampala – Police in Old Kampala are investigating a boldness robbery involving over one billion shillings stolen from a bullion van on the 19th of November, 2024. Initial investigations suggest that two security guards employed by G4S, tasked with transporting cash from Lubowa to Nakasero, conspired to steal the money. The vehicle, registered as UAJ 199T, was later found abandoned in Nabunya, Rubaga Division, with two firearms left behind at the scene.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed that the stolen cash amounted to UGX 1,069,420,000 (approximately 1.07 billion shillings) along with USD 14,474 in foreign currency. The bullion van, after being recovered, was towed to Old Kampala Police Station, where the two rifles were also secured.
Owoyesigyire revealed that police arrested one of the suspects, identified as Otim Ambrose Richard, a resident of Kwania district, after he was found in possession of UGX 117,000,000 (117 million shillings), believed to be part of the stolen money. Ambrose is currently in custody at Old Kampala Police Station, where investigations continue.
A search has been launched for the second suspect, the security guard, who remains at large. Authorities are urging the public to report any information that could assist in locating the fugitive.
The investigation is ongoing as police work to piece together the full details of the robbery and bring the culprits to justice.
