Kampala – The police have arrested a woman who appeared in the video that made rounds on different social media platforms assaulting a traffic police officer.
The video that has since gone viral showed a woman assaulting a traffic police officer after he allegedly asked her for her driving permit.
According to the police statement, the incident happened on 18th October 2024, at around 11:55 AM when their traffic police officer from Jinja Road Police Station attempted to stop a white Toyota Land Cruiser registration number UBM 439T driven by a Mercy Timbitwire Bashisha who had allegedly caused an accident.
The police noted that despite their traffic officer’s signals, the motorist is said to have refused to stop and continued driving while using her phone.
After catching up at Lugogo Traffic Lights, Timbitwire allegedly parked at the Uganda Manufacturers Association and locked her vehicle.
When the traffic officer asked for her driving permit, Timbitwire is said to have resorted to intimidation of the officer and later assaulted him.
The police statement also confirmed that Timbitwire confiscated two phones belonging to the police officer, as well as the police EPS gadget.
“She is currently under detention as investigations are being conducted”, the police statement confirmed.
