Lira – The crowning for Miss Tourism Uganda northern edition will take place this Saturday at Lira Hotel. 10 contestants will go through different stages as they face off with the judges and at the end, 3 people will be crowned with one being the overall winner and then there will be the first runnier up and the second.
The three winners from Northern region will then join the rest of the winners from different regions at Kampala Serena Hotel on September 13th for the grand finale.
As part of the crowning event on Saturday the 10 beauty Queens last weekend visited the Barlonyo memorial site, a destination known for dark tourism. In a space of 3 days, over 5,000 people were massacred, raped/defiled and abducted by the LRA rebels and turned to young soldiers and slaves in the early 2,000s. Today, there lies a monument and V-shaped grave where the massacred people were buried and that is the reason it is known as the dark tourism destination.
The girls were invited and taken through all that happened and they were told the judges might use that as one of the questions to taste their knowledge about domestic tourism.
