Kampala – On the 12th of January 2024, the former Vision Group boss and a Member of the Coffee Investment Consortium Uganda, Robert Kabushenga broke the ice when he used he used his X page to accuse
Tugume Nelson to have squandered $20M.

In his statement, Kabushenga said,” So it turns out that a political order was given & US$20m was disbursed to Tugume Nelson. This money is meant to finance the coffee export trade. But as
some of us kept pointing out, this money has since ended up in Nelson’s private account. He has lived up to his reputation as an accomplished crook & is no longer accessible. He has vanished with the money. This whole coffee value addition story is simply a scam. Nothing good will ever come to us coffee people from the Government. Time to organize ourselves privately & find solutions for our business. There is no hope!.”

Chaired by Tugume Nelson and deputized by Mr. Nuwagaba Consolanta, the Coffee Investment Consortium Uganda as part of the Presidential Advisory Committee was formed to promote Uganda coffee exports. The project was further supported by the president who instructed the Ministry of Finance to allocate funds to enable the exporters to acquire the required capital to procure large quantities of coffee for value addition.

It is said that Mr.Tugume Nelson is currently setting up a multi-million coffee factory in Ntungamo and many are questioning where he got the money for the said project. On the same note, one of the coffee farmers Byarugaba Remigio wrote to President Yoweri Museveni unfolding his dissatisfaction concerning the misuse of money meant for coffee export trade.

Since last year the consortium has lost some of its influential figures who say that the consortium has lost its direction.

Mr.Robert Kabushenga further alleges that the latest scheme is a media campaign in Russian media allied to Putin supposedly to grow imports of Ugandan coffee into Russia. That will need more money. He is spending part of the taxpayer’s money to build his “factory for instant coffee” in Ntungamo. In the unlikely event that he executes this, it will be his private business.

It is also alleged that Mr.Tugume Nelson has been involved in various money heists; where he was given UGX 9.6B from the Office of the Prime Minister and this was revealed Auditor General’s report.

Through Ahamark Advocates, Mr.Tugume Nelson is set to lock horns with the Former Vision group boss should he fail to apologize, correct and retract all the online statements.

Despite the pressure, Mr.Robert Kabushenga has promised to drive his point to the finishing point..
