Kampala – The court proceedings began with the former Attorney General; Mwesigwa Rukutana who represented Katanga’s family giving his submission.

Mr.Mwesigwa Rukutaana in his submission said that he was on a, watching brief’ to assist the Director
of Public Prosecution in prosecuting the widow, Molly Katanga and other 3 suspects.

However, Mr.Rukutaana’s submission left the defence lawyers from Kampala Associated Advocates fuming.

‘We strongly object to the presence of our colleagues at the BAR because this is a prosecution case
and no private prosecution. Our senior colleague has laid out a list of people that he represents. I don’t
know whether these people are spectators or time-wasters, but if they want, they should go to the police and make statements and come as witnesses,” said Jet John Tumwebaze

Mr. Tumwebaze added that he (Mr.Rukutaana) said he is on watching briefly and his eyes are very long, he can watch from the BAR but if it’s a private prosecution, then he is in the right place if he is on
the watching brief as he introduced himself, then he is in the wrong place and needs to sit back and watch with his eye.

Speaking to journalists outside court, Naome Nyangweso,a sister to the late Katanga told journalists its
no doubt her brother was killed by the greedy barbarian ,Molly Katanga over matters they’re yet to
establish but they suspect property.

She also added that they are aware of the money given to different power centers including media to protect the widow who is the prime suspect. The family accuses the widow that the injuries she sustained are self inflicted in order to delay court decisions.

One of the late Katanga’s nieces asserts that a day after Katanga’s death, his daughter who is prison
withdrew over shs 300M and then after her mother signed cheques. She added that it’s that money that
was used to pay security operatives and some media houses to write stories protecting the suspect.

Some sources indicate that Katanga had prepared paper work documenting all his wealth and had only
shared that secret with his sister and his lawyer.

Meanwhile the case has been adjourned to 18 th December 2023 and 8 th January 2024.
