Kibaale – Formed in the 1990s, the ADF took up arms against President Museveni, alleging persecution of Muslims.

After suffering heavy setbacks at the hands of the Ugandan army in 2001, it relocated to North Kivu
province in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo. The group pledged allegiance to IS in 2016.
As a result, Uganda People’s Forces launched Operation ‘Shuja’ in the Democratic Republic of Congo to
eliminate the rebel group. The ADF rebels have since heightened attacks on Ugandan people as a way of
revenge.

“Two ADF terrorists dead & their Commander Kamusi was injured by UPDF in Kibaale forest. Two SMG
riffles were recovered from. The hunt to eliminate the remaining terrorists & their agents within the
country continues”, Uganda People’s Defense Forces confirms.

This follows the arrest of a suspected ADF rebel named Nyanza in Jinja who had been pretending to be a
beggar.

On Tuesday last week, the Police together with the suspected rebel, Nyanza revisited the different areas
along Iganga Road, where he pitched camp for one week. The Kiira regional police spokesperson, James
Mubi confirmed the arrest of Nyanza but declined to divulge details.

One of the residents who preferred anonymity said that Nyanza who pretended to be a lunatic was
arrested while taking pictures of different buildings along Iganga Road, Southern Division, in Jinja City.

He was also found in possession of an unspecified amount of money and a mobile phone.

Ugandans have since been warned to be vigilant and report any suspected persons to the nearest
authorities since the rebels are targeting citizens during the festive season.
